An improved formalism for quantum computation based on geometric algebra - case study: Grover's search algorithm

چکیده
The Grover search algorithm is one of the two key algorithms in the field of quantum computing, and hence it is desirable to represent it in the simplest and most intuitive formalism possible. We show firstly, that Clifford’s geometric algebra, provides a significantly simpler representation than the conventional bra-ket notation, and secondly, that the basis defined by the states of maximum and minimumweight in the Grover search space, allows a simple visualization of the Grover search analogous to the precession of a spin1 2 particle. Using this formalism we efficiently solve the exact search problem, as well as easily representing more general search situations. We do not claim the development of an improved algorithm, but show in a tutorial paper that geometric algebra provides extremely compact and elegant expressionswith improved clarity for the Grover search algorithm. Being a key algorithm in quantum computing and one of the most studied, it forms an ideal basis for a tutorial on how to elucidate quantum operations in terms of geometric algebra—this is then of interest in extending the applicability of geometric algebra to more complicated problems in fields of quantum computing, quantum decision theory, and quantum information.

Electricity demand is forecasted to double in 2035, and it is vital to address the economicsof electrical energy generation for planning purposes. This study aims to examine the applicability ofGravitational Search Algorithm (GSA) and the newly improved GSA (IGSA) for optimization of themixed-integer non-linear electricity generation expansion planning (GEP) problem. The performanceindex of GEP...
متن کاملA case study in geometric algebra : Fitting roommodels to 3 D point clouds Author : Moos
Many geometrical problems exist which have been researched thoroughly, but always using classical methods such as linear algebra as a framework for the problem. As linear algebra is an algebra based on coordinates and numbers as basic elements of computation, this leads to longwinded and non-universal code. Geometric algebra is an alternative formalism in which geometric objects are the basic e...
متن کاملGlobal Optimization with Quantum Walk Enhanced Grover Search
One of the significant breakthroughs in quantum computation is Grover’s algorithm for unsorted database search. Recently, the applications of Grover’s algorithm to solve global optimization problems have been demonstrated, where unknown optimum solutions are found by iteratively improving the threshold value for the selective phase shift operator in Grover rotation. In this paper, a hybrid appr...
متن کاملAn Introduction to Quantum Game Theory
Quantum game theory is an important development in quantum computation, and has implications both for classical economic game theory and for quantum mechanics. Unfortunately, the quantum mechanical and quantum computational knowledge assumed in the literature presents a serious communication barrier for most economists. In the other direction, quantum game theory does not always seem to be cogn...
